BB Man Test Drive: Hanz de Fuko Claymation

More than strength or a pliable hold, adaptability may be a styling product's most underrated trait. The guys at Hanz de Fuko claim that their wax/clay hybrid Claymation is one of the market's most adaptable stylers. To see just how versatile the product really is, we rounded up three Birchbox staffers to see how it performed. Here are the results—straight, no chasers.

David wears his hair at a medium length, so he needs a clay with enough hold to keep it high and in place. We worked a touch of Claymation in from the roots, and after a little sculpting, were able to craft a casual, lightweight flip that still comes off as natural. The product’s soft texture and matte finish avert any resemblance to unfortunate late-90s missteps.

If You’re Looking for: Texture

Texture

Lucas keeps his hair cropped short, so everyday sculpting is purely optional. However, when he’s going for an edgier, textured look, a dab of Claymation can yield a truly impressive and intentional muss. The wax/clay hybrid has enough hold to keep rigid hairs in place, with a low-key texture that won’t feel crispy or greasy.

If You’re Looking for: Height

Height

Stu’s hair is fairly long, and since he wears it in a sky-high pomp, some serious strength was required. Luckily, Claymation came through in the clutch, providing enough hold to keep his coif on end without an excess of shine. This look required a bit more styler that David’s casual flip, but the clay’s matte finish ensured that the product itself wasn’t any more conspicuous.
