Birchbox Man Box Hack: Desktop Organizer with Phone Charger

In honor of our May theme—Good Form—we challenged the DIY masters behind MakersKit, to conceive, design, and execute the ultimate Birchbox Man box desktop upcycle. We had high expectations considering how ridiculously cool their signature terrariums or cocktail bar sets are. What we got is better than anything we might have imagined. Aspiring designers (and those with extra empty BB Man boxes) take note.

Materials needed:

•Birchbox Man box (8 ½” x 5 ½” x 2 ½”)
•Small pebbles (approx. 5-6 handfuls)
•Empty toilet paper roll
•Spare phone charger
•Pencil/pen
•Scissors
•Ruler

Step 1

Measure 2 ⅜” from back of drawer and cut vertical slots into the sides of the drawer all the way down to the base.

Step 2

Cut a hole large enough for a USB plug into back of drawer. Step 2

Step 3

Thread phone charger cable through.
Step 3

Step 4

Fit outside box into slots.
Step 4

Step 5

Cut an empty toilet paper roll down to a length of 2 ¼”.
Step 5

Step 6

Place piece of toilet roll into left or right corner of drawer.
Step 7

Step 7

While holding charger cable up, fill remaining space of drawer with stones/pebbles.
Step 8

Step 8

Plug in charger. Organize desk. Admire your handiwork.
