Month in Review: March 2013

Gentlemen,

This year we’ve flipped the script on the “ides of March.” No “bewaring” for us. No sir. Instead, we put our best foot forward. We went the distance and never looked back. Here’s what went down this month on The Guide and beyond.

We steeled ourselves for the (awesome) onslaught of college basketball.

The annual madness of March is among our favorite times of year but there’s always room for improvement. Make no mistake—we’ll still be clutching our dog-eared, beer-stained paper brackets at the end of the bar but this year we’re resolved to dress more like the coaches and less like the chest-painted fans. Our style inspiration? Gene Hackman’s Coach Norman Dale in Hoosiers. Well, him and a young P.J. Carlesimo, possessor of perhaps the greatest coach’s beard in NCAA history. In addition to filling out our brackets we’re perfecting our own free throws while listening to our favorite sports ballads—mostly jams from Space Jam.

We made some improvements around the homestead.

Our new bottle opener—an objet d’art if there ever was one—opened our longnecks and opened our minds to a whole new world of home upgrades. So we went in search of inspiration. We found some quick fixes for our digs as well as some more aspirational and timeless design for our eventual dream home. We also counted down the 10 designers every guy should know

We took a took a style tour of Brooklyn.

Our guide: the voice of the Brooklyn Nets and the Barclay’s center, David Diamante, known as “the man with the golden voice.” While on a whirlwind 36-hour odyssey of shopping, grooming, and self discovery, we also learned to pace ourselves. What a beautiful borough.

We teamed up with some legendary players.

We were pleased to start contributing to the new and incredibly spiffy Details Style Network. It’s good to have a grooming buddy to geek out with on topics such as the perfect shower shave, the art of cutting your own hair, and proper styling technique when it comes to pomades, creams, waxes, and pastes.

Cheers,

Birchbox Man
