Summer Friday Style: Justin Bridges of TuckedStyle.com

If we could extend one fleeting moment, it would be the euphoria that sets in on the Friday afternoon elevator ride down to the lobby and peaks as we push our way through the revolving doors and into the balmy summer air. It’s a moment of great promise, with an afternoon of possibility—and the whole weekend sprawling before us. To cap off a month dedicated to all things “off duty,” we tapped a few of our favorite menswear bloggers for their ideal summer Friday, from the shoes to the cocktails. Here, Justin Bridges of TuckedStyle.com, one of our favorite downtown photographers, describes a perfect lineup of eating eggs and snapping street style in Soho.

My Perfect Summer Friday:
As a photographer, I’m often away from my desk. But my perfect summer Friday would start right there, polishing off e-mails and editing photos. But a few hours in, I’d grab my camera and hop the train to SoHo.

But first, the Friday afternoon uniform: Even in the summer there’s a whole lot of the black in the lineup. I love to rock a sturdy and durable pair of black denim jeans, preferably the slim cut from Public School. I roll and cuff them super high so they show a whole lot of the black socks I’m wearing alongside a pair of Doc Marten Oxford lace-ups. Thanks to the good folks at Public School, I’m addicted to layering a T-shirt (like Uniqlo’s Airism Crew Neck over a mesh tank. The combination breathes nice and drapes well, and it’s also the perfect opportunity for a slight sleeve cuff. Top that off with a snap back and that’s the perfect summer attitude for me.

As soon as I pop out at Prince Street I’m headed straight to Fanelli’s Café for a small, late afternoon snack: two sunnyside-up eggs with bacon and French fries. Wash it down with a cold Coca Cola and hit the streets. I love to shoot street style in between doing anything else. The hunt is therapeutic and it gives me a chance to listen to my favorite songs on repeat (right now it’s “Champagne Coast” by Blood Orange).

Stealing away from office isn’t complete without a meetup with my other freelance friends. I’d text my pals Sean and Hana to see what they’re up to before dinner. Never hurts to drop by Saturdays for an iced coffee or swing by Carson Street Clothiers to hang out with the steeziest retail shop employees in Manhattan. Top off the night with some tacos and frozen margaritas at La Esquina and that would be the description of an awesome ditch day from work.
