Girl Power: The Females Who Inspire Us

In honor of International Women's Day on March 8, we decided to ask our staffers about the women who inspire them on a daily basis. From moms to sisters to some of our own Birchbox colleagues, here are their stories that—we'll admit it!—brought a heartwarming tear to our eyes:

"My best friend Katie is climbing Kilimanjaro this week and will reach the top on International Women's Day! It will the largest group of women ever to summit together and they are raising money to give to an all girl's school."—Rachel Silver, Director, Social Media

"My grandmother Sylvia, a pioneer and founder of Art Therapy, inspires to me to embrace my talents and hobbies every day. Because of her I am passionate about art, and painting together is one of our strongest ways of bonding."—Shana Honig, Brand Campaign Strategy Associate

"Megan McCue May, Head Trainer at Reebok Crossfit Fifth Ave, helps me push through the hardest obstacles. I look up to her because she is an amazing individual—after all, strong is the new sexy!"—Stephanie Almoguer, Customer Operations Associate

"My amazing grandmother and the memories we shared together! She taught me the importance of SPF, her secret recipe for baked mac and cheese with stewed tomatoes, and how to have 'moxie'—a spunky determination and steadfast resilience to get through anything life throws my way."—Juliette Dallas-Feeney, Community Manager

"The woman who inspires me most is my mom. She raised seven children while working full-time as an writer/editor and somehow never seemed tired. She still finds time to call each of us at least once a day just to check in and see how we're doing. My mother taught me to be gracious, hard working, and always have a sense of humor. She is quite literally my hero."—Kerrie Lopez, Brand Campaign Strategy Manager

"My mom beat stage 4 breast cancer, including a double mastectomy. When my Dad got sick with MS, she took care of him until he passed away. Then, she took her experience dealing with the loss of her husband to become a Medical Social Worker. After five years working for a hospital, she just opened her own Hospice practice, helping other families who are struggling with the illness and death of their loved ones, in a way only someone who has gone through the experience can do!"—Brittany Sheehan, Merchandising, Marketing & Inside Sales Manager

"My older sister Bev inspires me every day! A few years ago she took a risk and transformed her jewelry-making hobby into a career. She is hardworking, smart, creative, and kind. I am in awe that she is able to do everything she wants to do every single day and can still be the best wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and role model out there."—Dana Halpern, Merchandising Associate, Merchandising & Planning

"At the risk of sounding like a brown-noser: our very own CMO of Birchbox, Deena Bahri! Team leader extraordinaire, mother of two adoring (and adorable) children, she always finds the time and discipline to work out (even if it means running in the stairwell when a meeting gets cancelled at the last minute!) I don't know how she does it all, but I'm taking notes."—Loretta Doria, Senior Marketing Manager, Subscriptions

"My mother has always reminded me of the importance of family, love, and support. After she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, she kept her head high and fought through it like a warrior, continuing to stay positive and providing the love I've known since I was little. She's also taking me to Florida to celebrate her being cancer-free. Talk about a great woman!"—Kelsey Rozier, Brand Campaign Strategy Associate

"My sister-in-law, Deanna, is such an inspiration to me. Not only is she an unbelievable mother to my niece, Emma, but she always puts family first. Plus, she knows how to have a good time and is one of the only women who could fit into my crazy family."—Cara Harvey, Discovery Specialist
