A Better Reason To Shop This Season: Birchbox Brands That Give Back

November isn’t just a time for alternately indulging in delicious food and worrying about your waistline—it’s also about being thankful and giving back. Many of our favorite beauty brands are dedicated to working with important organizations around the world, raising funds and awareness for a range of environmental and social causes. Here is a by-no-means-exhaustive list of brands that give back.

Archipelago

Known for their natural soy candles and fragrances, Archipelago features a Bougie De La Vie (that’s “candle of life” in French) collection that donates 50 percent of all proceeds to Breast Cancer Angels. Each candle, scented with jasmine, fresh-cut grass, and hydrangea, helps underprivileged cancer patients get the medication and treatment they need.

Chantecaille

Chantecaille has a long history of partnering up with environmental organizations. This fall, the posh skincare and makeup brand is turning its attention to the planet’s largest land mammal: the elephant.Their L’Elephant Palette, a collection of eight Kenyan grasslands-inspired eye shadows, donates 5 percent of proceeds to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which protects elephants from poachers and helps conserve their habitats.

Kiehl’s

For over a decade, Kiehl’s has worked with amfAR, an HIV/AIDS research foundation. They’ve even created the “LifeRide for amfAR,” an annual nine-day charity motorcycle ride. Combined with sales of Kiehl’s limited edition amfAR products, these initiatives have raised more than $400,000.

Lulu Organics

We may know Lulu Organics for their amazing lavender-scented hair powder, but midwives and new mothers in Senegal know them for the bars of soap they’ve donated in support of the African Birth Collective. This organization aids pregnant women in rural and ill-equipped areas of Senegal, giving them resources, education, and personalized care.

Marula Oil

Having witnessed firsthand the beautifying powers of the locally harvested Marula Oil in rural East Africa, Marula’s founders were inspired to bring this miracle product to the Western world. Today their company employs hundreds of local women who harvest and dry the Marula fruit to earn their own livelihoods without having to compromise their culture or their land.

One Love Organics

Founded by two best friends, One Love Organics is known for its healthy, thoughtfully formulated skincare. They donate 1 percent of their annual net profits to CARE and the Children’s Scholarship Fund, two organizations that support poverty-stricken children and women.
