April 2014: Editor’s Letter

I secretly love rainy days, and I know I’m not the only one. A gloomy forecast is a welcome excuse to cancel plans, put on cozy sweats, and spend some quality time on the couch. Or, if I’m feeling ambitious, it’s a great time to tackle those to-do list items that always fall by the wayside—like cleaning out my closet—or whip up something homemade (for the record, chocolate chip cookies are always a good idea).

This month’s Birchboxes should provide plenty of rainy (or sunny) day entertainment. In particular, we expect to see some extra fun manicures—we partnered international blogger phenom Gala Gonzalez to create an exclusive collection of Color Club polishes. I’m personally hooked on “Breakfast At…,” a pearly seafoam green. Also on this month’s sample agenda: Number 4 Haircare’s Reconstructing Masque, which makes hair feel like you’ve just had a professional cut and blowdry; and Nyakio’s Kenyan Coffee Body Scrub, which buffs away dry winter skin with actual java beans and smells delectable.

Every subscriber will also receive a Rainy Day Ideas card with a few tips for making the most of grey skies—you can see additional suggestions here. There’s plenty more on the Birchbox Magazine, from our favorite waterproof products (those spring rainstorms come on unexpectedly, after all) and a pastel makeup tutorial.
