An Education: Beauty in Action
Lessons in curly hair maintenance and attention-getting nails from a very stylish teacher
Allidah, 27, perfects schoolmarm chic (and we mean that in the most complimentary way possible). She mixes tailored J.Crew pieces with vintage finds and her own hand-knitted creations. After two years teaching elementary school in Philadelphia, she’s getting her masters degree in Education at Columbia. Here’s how she gets her A+ look.

I only wash my hair about once every two weeks but I use conditioner every day. I recently discovered Davines, an Italian company, and have been alternating between their Love (curl-enhancing) and Momo (moisturizing) conditioners.
I never brush or comb my hair when it’s wet. The more you touch your curls, the frizzier they get. For styling, I use Davines Glossy Modeling Putty for Wizards (it smells vaguely of cupcakes — in a good way) and Terax Silk Foam Mousse which provides hold without making my hair crunchy.
As a teacher, I don't have the time or the inclination to wear a lot of makeup to work. Right now I'm using Origins Multi-Grain Makeup with SPF 14 and Quick, Hide! Concealer.
When I’m constantly pointing out things to students, it makes it a little more exciting if my nails are a wacky shade. This summer I was on a green kick – I like OPI Gargantuan Green Grape.
