Beauty in Action: Kimberly Snyder

Kimberly Snyder is not your usual celery stick-toting celeb nutritionist. Snyder spent three years trekking around the globe, researching the health practices of other cultures. Her findings became the basis of her holistic approach to nutrition — one that has attracted tons of A-list fans. In addition to her info-packed blog, the in-demand food guru recently published her first book, The Beauty Detox Solution. We caught up with Snyder to learn the secret of green juice and how we can get her stunning skin.

Daily Rituals

I dry brush every day for three minutes, right before I get in the shower, to help keep the toxins moving efficiently through the lymph system. Exfoliation is important to good skin, and I use the 3% AHA Cleanser by Beauty Without Cruelty every other day. I also use a toner in the evening and a high quality moisturizer with boosters every morning and evening. I keep my routine pretty simple so my skin can breathe.

World Studies

I spent three years traveling the world through over 50 countries, visiting every continent but Antarctica. I often visited regions of the world with access to far fewer resources than we have in America, and I noticed something very interesting — the women look much more beautiful. They have gorgeous skin, look much younger, and simply don’t have the same weight and health problems.

As I immersed myself in these various cultures, I gained a fresh perspective. I could really see how much Western society overcomplicates things with our different diet plans and beauty products. In contrast, simple beauty practices coupled with a more natural diet gets much better results.

Eat for Gorgeous Skin

My program puts the most emphasis on green vegetables, which are packed with chlorophyll, minerals, and vitamins. These nutrients provide your body with the nutrients it needs to fight aging and rejuvenate skin, hair and nails, plus amino acids to build protein.

It’s Easy Being Green

Most people don’t think of greens as protein sources, but they actually are. In fact, gorillas are the strongest animals on earth, pound for pound, and they derive their protein needs from their plant-based diet. My Glowing Green Smoothie is made of 70 percent green vegetables and 30 percent fruit. It helps you eat far more greens than you ordinarily could.

Coconut Power

Coconut oil is the best natural moisturizer: it helps soothe and strengthen the skin. Many commercial moisturizers contain a great deal of water, which makes you feel like your skin is being moisturized, but when the water evaporates, your skin remains as dry as ever.

Delicious Product Picks

My favorite line is Sally B’s Skin Yummies. It is completely plant-based and she makes everything by hand in her personal lab. Her mineral makeup is the best I’ve ever used and won’t clog skin at all. Many popular makeup lines use bismuth oxychloride, which can create or aggravate acne. Sally B’s Antioxidant Skin Boost is awesome too. It adds pure, potent vitamin C and resveratrol to your daily moisturizer, which helps your skin glow.
