Birchbox Short List

Forgive us for stating the obvious but: It’s Monday, and you’re not quite ready to start the work week. That’s why we’re bringing you the Birchbox Short List, a spirited guide to the best celeb gossip, videos, beauty news, and more. Think of it as your second cup of Joe—we promise we’ll leave you feeling ready to conquer the day (and week) ahead. Here, our picks for the week of November 11.

WWEB (Watch While Eating Breakfast)

You’re going to need plenty of tissues for this incredibly heartwarming, affirming video. Just before undergoing a double mastectomy, this woman leads her entire medical crew in a Beyonce-fueled dance party. It begins with some pretty enviable dance moves and ends with a wave of hugs.

There Goes Our Paycheck

The ladies at Of a Kind consistently churn out covetable limited edition collaborations with designers like Lulu Frost and Ernest Alexander. Now you can also shop the full collections of some of their talented collaborators on their site. Personally, we can’t get enough of the bright colors and custom prints from Dusen Dusen (above).

A Cold Season Cure

It wouldn’t be fall without warm, tasty soup (or, unfortunately, without cold season). Thankfully the newly relaunched Domino is back with a recipe for a butternut squash soup with a dash of spicy curry that is sure to clear up those sniffles.

Ready to Get Fueled

We can’t wait to try the newly unveiled Nike+ Fuelband SE, which is basically a watch on steroids. It tells time, counts your steps, measures workout intensity—all while sending data directly to your computer and iPhone. It’s so technologically advanced, it’ll make you feel like you’re working out in outer space.

In Which Jared Leto Feels Our Pain

The actor and professional flirt Jared Leto underwent an unbelievable physical transformation for his role as a transexual in the new movie, Dallas Buyers Club. In addition to shedding several pounds, he also subjected himself to the beauty treatments (ahem, waxing) that us girls have been braving for years. “Ladies, I feel your pain,” he tweeted. Thanks, J!

A New Way to Wear Cynthia Rowley

Not to toot our own horn, but we launched something extremely cool this week! Cynthia Rowley worked exclusively with Birchbox to launch her very first beauty line, and it’s a gem. Check out the set in our Shop and get the behind-the-scenes story.

Lunch Break Mini Film Fest

Female front women sound off in this musically inspiring short documentary. The film weaves between one-on-one interviews and raw live footage that will no doubt speak to anyone who’s ever picked up a guitar (or just taken a stab at karaoke!).

Could You Do It? One Year Without Makeup

We devoured this revealing preview of Thought Catalog writer Stephanie Yoder’s memoir of a year spent shirking makeup. It made us examine our own relationship to our trusty products. Would you ever drastically change up your beauty routine?

Night Time, Sky Time

Say what you will about Sky Ferreira, the part-bad girl/ part pop-princess can write some seriously catchy songs. We’ve been jamming her recent album Night Time, My Time, especially tracks like “You’re Not the One” and “I Blame Myself.” Guilty pleasures be damned!
