Birchbox Short List

Forgive us for stating the obvious but: It’s Monday, and you’re not quite ready to start the work week. That’s why we’re bringing you the Birchbox Short List, a spirited guide to the best celeb gossip, videos, beauty news, and more. Think of it as your second cup of Joe—we promise we’ll leave you feeling ready to conquer the day (and week) ahead. Here, our picks for the week of December 2.

WWEB

As a response to Kanye West’s much-discussed “Bound 2” music video (which features a steamy cameo by Kim K.), jokesters James Franco and Seth Rogen made their own same sex shot-for-shot rendition. While the guys definitely pulled a few laughs, some LGBT groups feel they crossed the line. Was this an LOL or a misfire?

Shop Till you Drop

Must we remind you that it’s Cyber Monday? Amidst all the online deals don’t forget to swing by the Birchbox Shop for amazing point offers. Need a visual? Check out our trusty grid here.

Beauty and the Boss

Does being a girly girl mean you won’t be respected at work? So asks Hello Giggles this week in a piece that explores why the feminine and the intellectual still seem to be at odds in the workplace. What do you think?

No Flatware Necessary

This is best thing we’ve encountered since the bread bowl. These baked apple boats make perfect vessels for vanilla ice cream and spiced caramel. We’ll take two, please.

On the Prowl

This week Slate went on the Prowl. No, they weren’t scouring OK Cupid; instead, they test drove the latest in social media hybrids, TheProwl.com. Unlike Pinterest, which is highly inspirational, the Prowl helps users find exactly what they want to buy right now. Would you ditch Pins to Prowl?

Hanging at the Mall

We’re guessing quite a few of you visited your local mall this past weekend, on the hunt for Black Friday steals. This week, W magazine shared a selection of works from photographer Micahel Galinsky’s mall photos from the late ‘80s. Warning: Acid washed jeans and bleached hair feature heavily in this time warp.

Lovely Leo

Oh, Leo. While we wait for the release of The Wolf of Wall Street later this month, let’s take a moment to revisit the actor’s heartthrob days of the late ‘90s. This week New York Magazine kindly re-posted its 1998 cover story on the young actor, then just coming off the press explosion that was Titanic. Relive the magic, people.

Holiday Hits

Now that Thanksgiving has passed, we’re officially allowed to listen to Christmas tunes, right? Tomorrow Leona Lewis releases her Motown-inspired Christmas, With Love album. Updated classics like “Winter Wonderland” and “O Holy Night” are sure to get you in the holiday spirit.
