Birchbox Short List

Forgive us for stating the obvious but: It’s Monday, and you’re not quite ready to start the work week. That’s why we’re bringing you the Birchbox Short List, a spirited guide to the best celeb gossip, videos, beauty news, and more. Think of it as your second cup of Joe—we promise we’ll leave you feeling ready to conquer the day (and week) ahead. Here, our picks for the week of December 16.

Treat Yo’self! (Kindly)

This week Refinery29 ran a piece from guest blogger YouBeauty urging women to “change the channel” when it comes to negative body image. The article gives harsh self-talk and unrealistic comparisons the boot—a particularly motivating message as we approach resolution-making time.

Book Club, Anyone?

Breaking news! The Cut reports that ex-Charlie’s Angel Cameron Diaz will release a book in just a few weeks. The title? The Body Book: The Law of Hunger, the Science of Strength, and Other Ways to Love Your Amazing Body. Diaz announced the book’s release with a makeup-free Instagram—what do you think of her natural look?

Sparkle & Shine

You guys, December’s box is such a goodie. We’re so excited about it we got together and counted down the 10 Things We Learned from December’s Birchbox Samples. Don’t worry, there’s still time to grab one for yourself!

Pop Goes Pulp

This month Birchbox fave Rashida Jones penned a passionate op-ed in Glamour speaking out against the “pornification” of today’s pop stars. Do you think gals like Miley and Nicki Minaj have gone too far?

Jingle All the Cray

Need an LOL break? Last week, Amy Poehler and street comedian Billy Eichner, dressed as a couple of off-duty North Pole employees, surprised unsuspecting New Yorkers with a Christmas caroling pop quiz. This frenzied, hilarious video will leave you in stitches.

Ya Snooze, Ya Lose (For Real)

Raise your hand if you love to hit the snooze button. (Raises hand.) This piece from the New Yorker proves that trying to grab a few extra minutes of sleep post-alarm can actually make you more tired. Yikes!

The Year in Feminism

From Queen Bey to Tina Fey, 2013 has had its share of amazing female role models. Check out this list of the most iconic feminist moments of the year, and get inspired to make 2014 your most ambitious year yet.

Just for Fun

It’s not a secret that we’re obsessed with holiday movies, and Home Alone is one of our very favorites. Now you can have your very own cameo with this silly GIF-machine that will insert a picture you upload to the film’s infamous, “Buzz, your girlfriend! Woof!” scene.

Making a Mag

We’re always looking for cool projects to support via Kickstarter, and our latest obsession comes in the form of an upcoming magazine project called Until Now. Focused on the coming-of-age experiences that dictate our creative output, this project will feature original illustrations and essays from people you’ve heard of (like Buzzfeed’s Doree Shafrir) as well as some up-and-coming new talents. Donate to get this baby off the ground!
