Holiday Travel Beauty

Whether you’re hopping on a train or flying cross-country, the key to surviving holiday travel is being prepared. In addition to snacks and magazines (or iPads, for all you early adopters), the right beauty products can be a total game-changer. Here are some of my all-time favorites — They’ll improve your quality of travel, even if they can’t help you get there any quicker.

The Minimalist:

All-in-ones are an easy way to streamline, as long as you choose the right one. NARS's Multiple in South Beach, a peachy bronze cream that works on eyes, lips, and cheeks. Because it’s sheer you don’t have to be strategic about applying it, and it gives you a pretty all-over glow. For simplicity, nothing beats Jouer’s Everyday Must-Have Collection, a slim set of four interlocking compacts that has (almost) everything you need for a low-grade glam look. There’s a trio of matte shadows in pretty neutrals; a translucent powder and versatile bronzer; a creamy cheek tint and highlighter; and a warm copper gloss. Throw on some mascara and you’re good to go.

The Global Goddess:

Hopping on a long-haul flight? In addition to a jumbo bottle of water, I pack an aromatherapy serum like Darphin's Orange Blossom Aromatic Care or Decleor Aromessence Neroli — the citrus scent cuts through stale cabin air and the oils keep skin from getting parched. An extra-hydrating lip balm like Jouer’s Essential Lip Enhancer heals cracked lips with vitamin E and jojoba oil.

The Energizer Bunny:

If you’re the type of traveler who packs your sneaks before anything else, toss these hardworking products in your bag. They’re streamlined and versatile and won’t slow you down. Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant is a super fine powder that turns into a foaming exfoliant when you add water. Bring it along instead of a cleanser; because it’s dry there’s no need to ziplock it. Herban Essentials Towelettes are indispensable, whether you’re going across the city or the country. I have used these in countless travel situations over the years (including degreasing during a Virginia bike tour). Because they’re individually wrapped you can just toss a few in your bag, and the all-natural essential oils clean skin without drying it out.
