How I’d Spend It: Birchbox Staffers Share Their Splurges

We don’t have an unlimited budget for beauty, so we have to make every product count. (And keep a rainy-day fund for those OMG-Must-Have-Now items, of course.) Our fellow staffers are no different. No matter their budget, they’re ultrapicky about their purchases. This month, we gave three Birchbox staffers a set allowance, from $25 to $100, and let them loose in our online Shop. Here’s what they scored.

Alina, Software Developer $25

Alina

It’s a rare day when Alina doesn’t walk in wearing a bold lip color and neutral eye shadow—so it’s no surprise that after she got the stila smudge stick waterproof eye liner in her very first Birchbox, she immediately went back for more. Her latest purchase: Lionfish, a shimmery brown. The Tech team star is constantly at her computer typing out code, so she keeps a Birchbox x Madewell Nail File on her desk to remedy emergency nail snags—and as a cute decorative touch.

Shana, Campaign Strategy Associate $50

Shana

Our recent brand-team addition chose products that fit her new city life (she recently moved to New York from Philadelphia). Shana can’t stand polish chips or bare nails, so she picked up La Fresh Nail Polish Remover wipes for her purse along with a bubble-gum pink Julep Nail Polish that seems to match practically everything in her closet. Sticking to the pink theme, she’s surviving the last of the hot summer days with the MIYU Hydrate Mi Beauty Essence, a refreshing facial mist with a mild floral fragrance.

Noha, Associate Operations Manager $100

Noha

This customer-service standout is always on the hunt for a rich conditioner to rehydrate her chronically parched, color-treated hair. Since she loves Miss Jessie’s to help style her curls, she made a beeline for their deep conditioner. And as NYC humidity reaches its peak, she also picked up Number 4 Firm Hold Hair Gel to control frizz. With a planned upgrade to the iPhone 5, the Triple C phone case in the Marrakech print will not only come in handy but also remind her of her study abroad days in Morocco. Finally, after receiving the Folle de Joie perfume in a recent Birchbox, she grabbed the matching hand cream to counteract the dryness caused by the office A/C.
