Is the Undercut the Most Popular Men’s Hairstyle of 2013?

While the women at last night's American Music Awards served up a some great hair (check out Nicole Richie's bouffant, Christina Ricci's Dutch braid, and Taylor Swift's '70s-ish shag), I couldn't help but notice the 'dos on the men. Like Liam Payne of One Direction seen here, many of them were seen rocking shaved sides and a retro-inspired cowlick top, otherwise known as an undercut. As Tweeted, I counted 28 of them last night. If three's a trend, let's call this an all-out craze.

The undercut has been popular here in LA for a few years now, especially in Silver Lake, the city's hipster playground. It’s also been spotted on Fairfax, where sports-loving streetwear snobs flock to Barracuda to get their sides shaved clean like David Beckham. Nowadays, The Well in Downtown LA can give you the sleekest rendition of the look.

If your man is down to make like Macklemore or Justin Timberlake, or if you're daring enough to try Rihanna's lady version of the style, request the undercut with a cowlick at your local salon—before the year's most popular short hairstyle becomes officially played out. Once you achieve the 'do, learn how to make it last longer here.
