It’s Easy Being Green With This All-Natural Color Stick

A few years ago, a friend started buzzing about switching to an all-natural beauty routine after reading NO MORE DIRTY LOOKS: The Truth About Your Beauty Products and the Ultimate Guide to Safe and Clean Cosmetics. The book, she explained, takes a very close look (to the “pores,” if you will) at the ingredients that go into the makeup and skincare that women use every day. Without naming names, many lipsticks, mascaras, and nail polishes incorporate chemicals that might not be so great for our bodies.

On the heels of my friend's advice, I started to explore the world of green beauty and was happy to find a number of amazing brands and products. One of which, W3LL PEOPLE, stood out in particular because of the popularity of its lip-and-cheek Universal ColorStick, a product some of you will receive in your February Birchboxes.

Since I’ve already waxed poetic on my love for cream blush, I’ll save you my spiel. But I will say that the formula is as smooth as silk and the color is buildable so you can layer it on for more dramatic results. I also appreciate its eight different shades, which range from a golden shimmer (shade #2), perfect for highlighting, to a feminine dusty rose (shade #8) to a deep red wine (shade #3). Regardless of the color you pick, it’s the perfect product for when you can only fit one thing in your bag, whether you need something as a quick fix to brighten your face before a big interview or to take the place of lipstick before a last-minute date. And with ingredients that read like a recipe for a healthy smoothie—organic aloe, organic green tea, and organic chamomile—you won’t think twice about reapplying (even on your eyes) throughout the day.

While I haven’t yet converted to an all-out natural regimen—the leap to natural deodorant is where I draw the line—I can still feel good about finding products that use environmentally friendly, plant-derived ingredients like those from W3LL PEOPLE. And, who knows, maybe suds-free shampoo is in my future too. I’ll keep you posted.
