Peachy Keen

We can wax poetic about pretty blushes and lust-worthy lip glosses all we want, but a picture is worth a thousand words. So we took a lot of pictures—hundreds, in fact— for Birchbox’s first editorial shoot. Makeup artist Nam Vo transformed our gorgeous model, Natalia, three times over to showcase summer’s hottest hues: peaches, oranges, and corals. Find out how to recreate these looks yourself.

The Cheek: Peachy Glow

“During the summer, it’s all about a fresh golden look,” says Vo. She gave the bronzed look an update by adding a glowy apricot cheek. Vo started with fresh’s Here Comes the Sun Bronzer. “I applied this to the hollowest areas of the face right below the cheekbones,” she says, to create a sculpted effect. Next, she used Laura Geller’s Blush-n-Brighten in Boysenberry on the apples of the cheeks to give them a peachy flush. Lastly, she used Makeup Forever’s gilded Star Dust powder all over the cheeks to neutralize the color and add a highlight. “This last step really gives the cheeks their glow.”

The Lip: Tangerine Sherbert

“I kept the face simple because the lip is where the punch of color is,” Vo says of this sherbet-inspired pout. The surprisingly simple look uses just two products. Vo started with NARS’s Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Bolero, which is a light pink cantaloupe color. “I made sure to layer the color on twice so it would really standout,” says Vo. To give the lips a lustrous sheen, she simply added Jouer’s Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Tender, a sheer tangerine shade. “This glazed coral color is what really made it look so pretty,” she explains.

The Eyes: Catch a Fire

This molten eye makeup is a mega statement — not for the faint of heart. Vo used NARS’s Scorching Sun shadow duo, which has a vivid yellow-apricot color and a radiant ginger hue. “It’s like having the sun light up your eyes,” says Vo. Using the mustardy shade all over first to give the lid a vivid base, she also applied the color under the eye with a special smudge brush. “Rimming the eye with an intense yellow really helped to brighten the whole area,” says Vo. To make the eyes stand out even more, she added contour with the intense orange shade. Using a crease brush, Vo appled the darker color to the deepest hollow of the eye area in a back and forth motion. She finished off the look with plenty of black mascara.
