Test Drive: Caudalie’s New Polyphenol C15 Line

I’ve always been a beauty minimalist. Over my three years at Birchbox, my routine hasn’t changed diversified much, despite being surrounded by free products. My regimen is still the same as it was when I was 18: a SPF moisturizer during the day, a night cream before bed, and very little makeup.

I’ve gotten away with this laissez faire approach mainly because of good genes, but lately it’s been catching up with me. The cause? I’m busier than ever: I’m a mother of two (with another on the way!) and I have a very full-time job. With my burn-the-candle-at-both-ends attitude and 38th birthday on the horizon, I decided to take a more proactive approach to anti-aging.

There was one hitch: I didn't know how to get started. I try many different brands, moving on to a new product when I run out. But this was the future of my forehead at stake—it called for more serious research. (Or, in this case, crowdsourcing.) After canvasing the product pros on staff, I decided to give Caudalie’s new Polyphenol C15 line a spin. The collection is designed for women in their thirties who are dealing with stress, fatigue, and exposure to free radicals (like pollution, UVs, and other environmental toxins). That pretty much describes me in a nutshell.

The line consists of four products: a day-and-night serum, a day cream, a night oil, and an eye and lip cream. To start with, the C15 line has really beautiful packaging—it sounds silly, but as soon as I set the bottles on my vanity I felt excited to use them. (And seeing them every time I walk into my bathroom reminds me to keep using them.)

I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I caught the Caudalie bug. For starters, the formulas feel more luxurious than any skincare I’ve tested: lightweight and silky, with a velvet-touch finish. With the serum in particular (meant to be used both morning and night) I sometimes find myself over-applying because I enjoy the feel of it so much. The night oil was also a revelation: a lovely ritual at the end of a long day—not to mention I immediately noticed that my skin looked more supple and well-rested in the morning. As for the day cream and eye and lip cream, those have slipped seamlessly into my routine.

And I haven’t even mentioned my favorite part: the scent. The entire line has a refreshing yet soothing fragrance, with subtle hints of herbs and citrus. My significant other is the ultimate critic when it comes to scent, so when he gave the C15 line the thumbs up, I knew I had something special on my hands (and face).

After my trial run, I’ve decided that the C15 line is the total skincare package: beautiful packaging, a simple system I can stick with, nourishing formulas, and a hypnotizing scent. I guess you can call me a Caudalie loyalist because I will definitely be repurchasing this line. I feel more sophisticated (and wrinkle-free) already.
