This Awards Season, Hair Takes a Back Seat

If the red carpet at last night's 40th Annual People's Choice Awards reveals anything about the beauty we'll see at this Sunday's Golden Globes, it's that this season's hair is playing second fiddle to celebs' beautiful faces. Although sassy beach waves aren't going away anytime soon (starlets will never tire of their va-va-voom appeal), a slew of big-name stylists have discovered a more sophisticated vibe.

Offering three ways to sport clean and simple 'dos, we have Jessica Alba with a middle-part and off-the-shoulder look, Jennifer Hudson with a chic and sculpted pixie cut, and Heidi Klum with a slicked-back high ponytail. To get the look at home take advice from Chris McMillan, trusted stylist to Jennifer Aniston and Miley Cyrus, who employs Living Proof's super-sleek styling products to keep A-listers like Julianne Moore classy on the red carpet.

Peoples Choice Awards Updo

Intricate updos were also in full force last night. Gals like The Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev, Awkward's Desi Lydic, and Castle's Stana Katic opted to keep hair out of their faces with fun twists that offered a business-in-the-front, party-in-the-back feel. A big fan of this style, Sofia Vergara's hair guru Jen Atkins uses her tried-and-true Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray to add some relaxed volume.

Which do you prefer? Up and out of the way or long and loose? Let us know which styles you hope to see at the Golden Globes.
