Birchbox Breakdown

The hair experts at amika went to the ends of the earth to source this color-friendly shampoo. It contains Siberian sea buckthorn berry oil, which is loaded with omega acids and vitamins to promote hair health. The silky shampoo sinks into each hair follicle to quench dryness and repair damage. The sweet scent comes courtesy of wild cherry extract.

How it Works

Especially great for color-treated hair, the sulfate-free formula locks in color and balances out your hair’s pH levels. The wonder ingredient is Obliphica oil. Sourced from sea buckthorn berries, it contains rare omega 7 acids (typically found in fish oil) plus a mega-high dose of vitamin C (about 15 times more than an orange).

How to Use

Wet your hair in the shower, and massage a small amount of shampoo into strands, concentrating on the roots. Rinse with warm water.

Ultra sweet scent

The shampoo worked fine, but the scent was way too floral for me. On the plus side, the product had nice packaging and it's good to find a shampoo that's pH balanced.

Doesn't get my hair super clean

This shampoo let me down a bit, as whenever I use it, my hair does not come out as clean as with most other shampoos. The roots are left looking oily, not as oily as if I'd skipped my shower that day, but still oilier than normal after shampooing. I probably won't buy it again.

perfect for red dyes

I have semi-dry, dark hair with a ton of gray coming in [insert a sad, deep sigh]. Every two months or so, I get a one-color process of reds and blacks at a salon. When I first started doing this -- I found the black to be pretty strong while the red would start to fade. And then I received the amika shampoo as a birchbox sample. After using it a couple of times -- I noticed my reds were popping again. I've now purchased the full-sized product and I couldn't be happier. I use it in combination with my regular color protection shampoo and I'm loving how strong my reds are...

Just pHine

I enjoyed using this shampoo, but nothing about it really stood out too much. It did leave my hair silky and manageable, but for the price I think I could find something a little better. Maybe the more I use it the healthier my hair will get, but for now I think the product is just pHine!

Love this!

I get my hair permed every 4 months and the first couple of weeks it feels dry. When I used this it made my hair feel very soft and it smells so good. I love this!

Great smelling

Love the smell of this shampoo! It does not lather significantly; however, it leaves your hair clean and not weighted down.

No Lather

The amika shampoo left me feeling like I needed to apply it twice every time I used it because of the lack of lathering. It also left my hair a little frizzy and not as clean as I would like. The smell was lovely though.

Not sold.

Even though it smells very nice, I am not sure if it "corrected" the pH of my hair. After one use, it left my hair very itchy and flakey. I cant imagine purchasing this product.

Hair felt great

I'm always nervous to try a new shampoo but I was amazed at how soft my hair felt after using this! I also get my hair colored once every 8 weeks so I love a good color friendly shampoo

probably works fine if you're a 'wash your hair every day' kind of girl.

...but I'm not. For me, this shampoo didn't work at all.

I didn't even get a sample- I bought a full-sized bottle outright because it had such good reviews. It smells fine, but I don't think it is exceptionally good.

The first time I used the shamoo, I thought it just didn't lather well, but then I dried my hair and found it looked and felt dirtier than before I washed it. The next time I used it, I kept adding shampoo until it lathered (which ended up being maybe 1/3 cup of shampoo) and it was better, but still felt dirty and i still needed to wash my hair sooner than usual. At this point, I've used the shampoo about 4 times and the full-sized bottle is almost gone. I definitely won't be buying another.
