History

In 1993, Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas were deep into grape harvest season on her family estate, Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte, when they met Dr. Vercauteren, a professor at the University of Pharmacy in Bordeaux. He taught them all about grape seed polyphenols and their miraculous anti-aging properties.  In 1994, the husband and wife duo registered a patent on the extraction and stabilization of the grape-seeds, and soon after released their first  beauty products. Over the years, they have continued to pioneer grape research and have developed a vast and luxe skincare line. Nowadays, Caudalie products are sold in more than 25 countries, with signature Vinotherapie Spas around the world.

Philosophy

It is possible to create very effective beauty products with natural formulas and refined, luxurious textures. Caudalie prides itself on using every aspect of the grape, from the seeds to the vine, to create products that nourish, refresh, and renew skin. Since 1996, their entire line has been paraben-free, and the company is also continuously working to reduce waste, plastic packaging, and CO2 emissions.

Birchbox Extra

Fun fact: Caudalie is a French word that quantifies the duration of a wine’s flavor in your mouth. One second equals one Caudalie. The more Caudalie the better the wine.
