As a young French émigré in disco-era New York, Sylvie Chantecaille set out to make a splash in the beauty world. First, a lucky collaboration with designer Diane Von Furstenberg yielded a niche cosmetics line. The success of the venture caught the attention of Estée Lauder, and Chantecaille helped them launch the Prescriptives line in 1979. Nearly two decades later, Chantecaille decided to found her own venture: a namesake brand that fused her scientific expertise with her love for holistic ingredients. Starting out with four scents based on natural essential oils, the collection has grown to include makeup, skincare, and a variety of gorgeous fragrances.
