History

In 1983, UK-born skin therapist Jane Wurwand opened the International Dermal Institute in California with the goal of raising the bar of esthetician training in the United States. She invited a group of leading skin experts to teach at the IDI, and together they saw a chance to revolutionize the industry. Rather than viewing skincare as being about beauty, Wurwand and her colleagues saw it as a matter of health. In 1986, Wurwand launched Dermalogica, an effective skincare line free of irritants and artifical ingredients. The line has since expanded worldwide, with Dermalogica-trained therapists in over 50 countries.
