Birchbox Breakdown

Whether it’s a late night or an early morning, looking tired is never chic. Luckily, there are ways to fake the chipper look (even as you’re dozing into your coffee). Jouer’s Essential Eye Clarifier Pencil comes in a universal creamy nude color that instantly perks up tired eyes. And it’s not just for mornings — stash the pencil in your purse for a mid-day or pre-dinner pick me up. Best of all, the pencil can be used alone or underneath your favorite eye makeup.

How it Works

The oatmeal-colored pencil counteracts any redness to make the whites of your eyes look brighter and open up your gaze. It’s formulated with healing vitamin E to be gentle enough for sensitive eyes.

How to Use

Carefully line the bottom waterline, focusing on the inner and outer corners. Keep the pencil as close to the lash line as possible (no one wants white eyelashes!). Sharpen the pencil when it starts to get dull.

Not long lasting

I was so disappointed in this. It looks very natural and I didn't have much trouble putting it on, but it disappears so quickly, you really would have to bring this with you everywhere to keep it looking good. Very expensive lesson. Don't buy this.

Great

I really think this is a great way to make your eyes look more awake especially on those mid week days when you feel like time is dragging.

Help me look awake!

This penciel is handy to swipe on my water line when I'm feeling really red, or when I wake up after a poor nights rest. It makes me look awake!

Eh

I bought this hoping it would open up my under eye area, and I have not been impressed. It doesn't stay well and the concealer gets pushed far back into the pencil.

Disappointing

I picked this up because I wanted to brighten up my eyes a bit. I have tried the white liner before, but it looks too harsh and fake on me. I thought that a flesh tone pencil would do the trick. This however, looks more yellow on my water line than flesh tone. As the day goes on it seems to oxidize and look even more yellow/tan. It also wears patchy on me, with some areas staying put all day, while other areas wear off after a few hours. I really wanted to like this as I do so many other Jouer products. I guess they can't all be winners.

Wake up Tired Eyes!

I love this product! It is perfect for taking the red tired look out of your eyes. It's very natural looking. It's not harsh like using an all white eye pencil to line your inner eye (waterline). It goes on smoothly and looks great all day. It was worth the purchase.

Doesn't last long

I use this on my lower waterlines to try to counteract my red tired eyes. It's gone within an hour, which was pretty disappointing. Also, it's hard sometimes to get it to make a mark - I have to "write" on the back of my hand to soften it up and then apply it to my eyes.

Not good for it's intended purpose, but useful.

I'm quite pale and I've used white for this purpose before with so-so results, but white liner tends to be whiter than the whites of my eyes, so I worry it just makes my eyes look yellow and/or pink in comparison. Meanwhile, my waterline has been getting increasingly pinky-yellowy and tired looking over the years (or maybe it is because I got a new pair of glasses or maybe I'm just obsessing...), but either way I was really looking forward to this one with the hope that a more peachy liner would brighten me up and look just a bit more flesh toned than my eye whites, to make them look more clear too.

Unfortunately, I just couldn't get a smooth coverage of the pigment on the waterline and it nearly wiped right off. So, because it doesn't last I'll keep it in my purse and stick to only using it for a pick-me up, if my make-up has faded otherwise, just on the inner and outer corners, and just tight up *under* the lower lashes more like a quick and easy, targeted concealer when the long day is starting to set in and the darkness is starting to peek out again. A touch under the brow-line as a highlight and smudge is a nice way to "open" the eyes up near the end of the day too.

Don't waste your money

A great concept, but an enormous fail. This pencil deposits NO color. It does absolutely nothing. A really huge disappointment.

Lighter than expected

The item is closer to my skin tone than I had hoped for. It doesn't show up, but doesn't exactly blend in either. I like the creaminess of the pencil and way it glides.
