History

John Kiehl founded his now-famous pharmacy in Manhattan’s East Village in 1851. The traditional apothecary doled out now-outdated remedies like blood-sucking leeches and botanical salves. Over the years, they began creating their own essences and lotions, and with the aide of intrepid owners, the company grew into the powerhouse that it is today.

Philosophy

Two words: No nonsense. Kiehl’s is about simple, natural products, with proven ingredients and formulas. The fine formulations have always been made with the most unique natural ingredients found the world over. They also take corporate responsibility as seriously as personal care, from their recyclable packaging to their Aloe Vera Biodegradeable Liquid Body Cleanser, of which 100% of sales goes to JPF Eco Systems charity.

Extra

We love Kiehl’s packaging, not only because it is recycled (!) and retro chic, but also because the easy-to-squeeze bottles and screw-top pots let us use every last bit - and believe us, we do!
