SHU UEMURA
History
As a Hollywood makeup artist in the 1950s, Shu Uemura began applying the principles of visual art to the face. In 1964, his transformation of actress Shirley MacLaine into a geisha for the film My Geisha branded him one of the industry’s most sought after talents, and led to his eponymous makeup collection. Over the next half century, his vision expanded to holistic skincare, accessories and, in 2007, SHU UEMURA Art of Hair.
