Different, even a little strange, but it's growing on me
I ordered this in the Menthe Vanilla out of sheer curiosity. The first time I used it, I wasn't so sure I'd like it; it leaves a residue and made my hair feel a little gummy. Maybe a hippie whose idea of getting clean is rolling around in the mud and dousing on the patchouli oil would like this, but I'm no hippie... That said, I decided to give it another chance, and I'm glad I did. The mint is very aggressive; my scalp tingled for several minutes after I rinsed out the mud. What you should remember is that this isn't shampoo. Knowing this, the next time I used it, I paid special attention to the way my hair responded. Yes, this leaves a residue, but the coating does leave my hair shiny and incredibly manageable, even after using my straightening iron. And my hair and scalp still felt and looked clean the next day, and the next.
I was really looking forward to this shampoo, but it made my hair feel dry and straw like. My hair hasn't had this bad a texture since I was swimming in chlorine every day! It smells nice, and might work well for other people, but it just didn't jive with my hair.
I decided to try this product because it's supposed to be good for your hair and I love that it's organic. However, if you've never used anything like it before, be prepared to be a little weirded out.
You are supposed to shake the bottle a lot before you pump because it's very watery. It doesn't thicken too much and it looks and feels like muddy, gritty water in your hands. You are also supposed to coat your hair in this stuff, but my hair is very thick and this stuff doesn't lather at all (making it difficult to really coat your hair).
After I used it, my hair felt really heavy, like it had a lot of build up or product still in it. It was hard to brush through (imagine trying to comb through your hair right after coating it with lots of hairspray). It doesn't feel very nice wet, so I decided to blow dry it, despite Birchbox's recommendation not to.
My hair is definitely noticeably different. It looks softer and I used the vanilla mint mud-poo, which was nice and cool and tingly on my scalp. I think I may be a little displeased because I have very oily hair and scalp but I try to wash my hair every other day. I used the mud-poo on my "wash day" (I didn't wash my hair the day before), so it could just be there was a lot of build-up in my hair already.
I think in the future, I will still use this product and give it another chance. But I'll try to use it at night before bed so I don't have to blow dry my hair and I will make sure to use it the day after I wash my hair with regular shampoo instead of 2 days later.
I tried this because I heard Moroccan oil was good for the hair. Well it paid off great and smooth texture. Great for dry hair
