Use a regular moisturizer on your palms before applying self-tanner to ensure that they don’t end up a darker color than the rest of your body. You can also put a light layer of moisturizer on dry areas like elbows and ankles before tanning to avoid over-saturating them.

Xen-Tan Deep Bronze Luxe

By XEN-TAN

$39.00           Size: 8 oz

Birchbox Breakdown

If regular self-tanner scares you a little (after all, everyone has witnessed faux glow gone awry), you might shy away from anything labeled ‘Deep Bronze'. But this cult favorite works on a wide range of skin tones — even the palest of the pale! We should know: we had the ghostliest person on staff try it. And guess what? She loved it. And it looked natural. And now she won’t give it back. If you want an even, just-back-from-the-islands look, this silky lotion is tops.

How it Works

Carefully formulated to flatter people with even the fairest skin tones, this lotion uses DHA, an ingredient that reacts to the amino acids on your skin’s surface to give you a sunny glow. Moisturizing shea butter and aloe vera help the lotion glide on easily for minimal streaking. A light vanilla scent keeps you from smelling like a walking chemistry experiment.

How to Use

Always use self-tanner after exfoliating. Apply to dry skin, using circular motions and being sure to rub it in thoroughly. Allow your skin to air dry before putting on clothes, and make sure to avoid anything light-colored until the tan has fully developed. A light tint will appear upon application, but the color will gradually deepen over three hours. Build up your tan over several days.
