Co-founders Hayley Barna and Katia Beauchamp met at Harvard Business School. With inspiration from Hayley’s beauty editor best friend Mollie Chen, they created Birchbox to help consumers cut through the clutter of the retail world to find products that really work for them.

Katia’s beauty motto: “I’ll try anything twice.” She’s not kidding—in the short time since starting Birchbox, she has experimented with everything from lip tattoos to at-home waxing kits. A bonafide hair whiz, she can whip up a red carpet-worthy updo in minutes using her trusty teasing brush and often gives impromptu braiding lesson to her co-workers. Her day-to-day consists of building relationships with beauty and lifestyle brands, telling the story of Birchbox to the media, and paving the path for Birchbox’s future partnerships with aplomb.

Hayley has come a long way from her low-maintenance beauty roots. During the early days of Birchbox she served as the newbie screener for Mollie's product descriptions (where do you put that? why? how?). Now she’s officially qualified to use liquid liner and is steadily amassing an enviable nail polish collection. On any given day at Birchbox HQ, you can find her poring over numbers in Excel spreadsheets, solving logistical snafus, and dreaming up new ways to help our customers get the most out of Birchbox.

Before Birchbox: Bain consultant, amateur behavioral economist, and costume dance party specialist at Harvard Business School.

There’s picky and then there’s Mollie. Birchbox’s resident skeptic doesn’t believe a beauty product until she tries it, which is why she spends a good part of her days putting makeup on and off. (She uses more face wipes than team Birchbox thought was humanly possible.) A former magazine editor, she has a slight obsession with em-dashes and parentheticals and spends too much time geeking out over integrating content and commerce.
