BB Man: How would you describe your style?
Kapaun: Urban-Casual. I like to keep it simple by wearing something that easily transitions from one setting to another.
BB Man: Who would you say is your style icon?
Kapaun: Colin Farrell. I know he isn’t normally thought of as a “style icon,” but the guy has a great fashion sense in terms of what works and what doesn’t. He always looks genuinely comfortable in his own skin, which is something I admire.
BB Man: How did you hear about Birchbox Man?
Kapaun: My girlfriend introduced me to Birchbox. I started my subscription in August 2013 and my first box came a few weeks later.
BB Man: How do you get your wardrobe ready for fall?
Kapaun: Fall is all about layers. Growing up just outside of Chicago means fall weather is anything but predictable, so you have to be ready. It can be sunny and 70 degrees at noon, and then drop to 40 and windy two hours later. I try to have enough options to keep me covered, along with enough variety to keep me from getting bored. I like layering a lightweight v-neck sweater, ¾-zip sweater, cardigan or a thermal over a solid, colored, t-shirt.
BB Man: What’s your go-to breakfast food?
Kapaun: Eggs. I’ll have them poached, scrambled, fried, as a frittata, an omelet, or even hard-boiled. It’s an extremely versatile food that packs a great protein punch. Combine that with a strong cup of coffee and it’s a great way to start the day.
BB Man: What’s your favorite thing to do?
Kapaun: I’m a bit of a news junkie–and by “a bit” I really mean “a big.” I love to read, and I thoroughly enjoy keeping up with world events.
BB Man: That shows in your Twitter feed. What’s your approach to sharing?
Kapaun: Twitter feeds can get boring if it’s the same stuff every day, and I like to keep mine as relevant as possible, while using a bit of variety. Food, especially, is great at connecting people. But I draw the line at telling people mindless things like, “Hey, going to the grocery store.” Nobody cares.
BB Man: What’s your favorite (non-smartphone) technological innovation, historical or recent?
Kapaun: The development of GPS and digital maps. I’ve had a strange obsession with cartography for as long as I can remember.
BB Man: Favorite thing you’ve received in your Birchbox Man box?
Kapaun: The Quirky Upwrite, which came with my October box. The timing was perfect because I wanted a new keychain. The design is modern and the use is practical–can’t beat it.
