Between Jenny Slate in Obvious Child and Matthew McConaughey in True Detective, 2014 has been marked by comedic actors showing their more sensitive sides. This fall, Kristen Wiig joins the club with her most dramatic roll yet in The Skeleton Twins, a drama starring Wiig and SNL-alum Bill Hader as siblings from a dysfunctional family.
It's hard to believe that it's been almost a decade since the actress joined the cast of SNL in 2005, creating a small village of unforgettable characters—from the Target Lady to a Californian to that one strange sister on The Lawrence Welk Show. Since leaving SNL, Wiig has treated her fans to her multifaceted talents in Bridesmaids, goofy appearances on late night TV, and by gracing the covers of our favorite fashion mags. But now, she's getting serious. Early reviews of The Skeleton Twins suggest an award-winning performance from Wiig.
Watch the trailer before the movie comes out on September 12, and look out for her at the Emmy Awards on Monday—she was nominated for her role in The Spoils of Babylon. A funny lady who can also make us feel? Kristen Wiig is the real deal.
