This Stylist Spends His Day Off Giving Haircuts to the Homeless

Six days a week, Mark Bustos works as a stylist at Three Squares Studio, a prestigious NYC hair salon. His clientele is noteworthy, and his chair is fully booked. But each Sunday, without fail, he takes his clippers on the road.

Since May 2012, Bustos has spent his one day off (let that sink in) walking the streets of New York City, offering free shaves and haircuts to anyone who needs them. And just like that, the gentleman's bar has been raised.

Bustos began his weekly excursions after a trip to the Philippines, where he rented a chair at a barbershop to give haircuts to needy children. The experience stuck with him—so much so that he was inspired to start his philanthropic movement, marked by the hashtag "#BeAwesomeToSomebody" on his Instagram account. He approaches each person with the same simple statement: "I want to do something nice for you today," and provides up to six free haircuts a day, often buying his clients food and other daily necessities. The impact, as shown by his photos, cannot easily be measured.

H/t to the Huffington Post for tipping us off to Bustos' good works.
