I’ve been obsessed with Jurlique’s Balancing Face Oil ever since I was lucky enough to get a facial at their NYC flagship spa this past winter. Every night since then, I’ve been slathering it on with abandon, inhaling the calming herbal scent and relishing how soft it makes my skin feel (seriously, I wish I could bathe my entire body in this stuff.)
I know from experience that face oils are lovely for all skin types, especially combination skin like mine (it’s a common misconception that oily skin types shouldn’t use face oil). The lightweight blend balances out my complexion, moisturizing dry patches and mattifying oily spots. And I learned at the spa that this particular product is a blend of six different plant oils, many of which are derived from the hand-picked flowers and herbs grown on Jurlique’s biodynamic farm in Australia.
What I only recently discovered, though, is that face oils go way beyond my evening application ritual: You can use it to amp up your moisturizer, get an illuminated finish, even soften your cuticles. What really matters? This means I can pretty much wear it 24/7.
Boost Your Moisturizer (and Face Mask)
Mix a few drops of face oil with your favorite moisturizer or serum (I love Jurlique’s Herbal Recovery Advanced Serum) to rehydrate dry skin. This comes in particularly handy as the seasons change, and your complexion needs help adjusting. You can also add oil into your favorite face mask for extra moisturizing benefits.
Get a Radiant Glow
Normally, I would be afraid to put anything remotely shiny on over my makeup. But pressing a few drops of this face oil on top of your foundation, BB cream or tinted moisturizer can give you that dewy, illuminated look. Just dab it where you usually apply bronzer, along your cheekbones and jawline to get the desired effect.
Don’t Be Afraid to Go Beyond Your Face
I like to smooth some of the oil onto my neck before I go to bed (that area often gets ignored when it comes to product application), but you can also press a few drops onto your chest for a subtle sheen. The ladies who work at Jurlique even use it on their nails, to soften their cuticles, and as a hair oil: Apply a dropper full to wet or dry hair before you shampoo to nourish your strands and avoid that squeaky clean feel. Or smooth a few drops onto roots to tame flyaways.
