Feel the Urge to Purge
We’re willing to bet that you don’t need at least a quarter of the stuff on your desk or in your closet. Pick a day this month, get up early, put on some AC/DC or Metallica, and go through every last thing. Donate what’s still worth anything and throw out what isn’t. You’ll be amazed at how good you’ll feel, and nothing says “new year” like a clean slate. Get extreme with the ultimate minimalist work space.
Become Label Conscious
Forget dogs for a minute—when it comes to getting organized, labels are truly “man’s best friend.” Whether you want to go all out and splurge on a true label maker or just handwrite everything on pieces of tape, labels will make the difference between getting organized and staying organized.
Don’t Ignore the Unseen
Organization should be more than just what’s on your workspace. Take time to separate and label the wires behind your computer (you’ll thank us when you have to swap out your phone or wireless router), and invest in drawer organizers to keep small office supplies from mounting up.
Make It Personal
Create a workspace that works for you and you alone. Don’t like papers on your desk? Create a filing system in a drawer. Rarely use your printer? Tuck it away or keep it on the floor next to your desk. Inspired by Michael Jordan? Keep a photo of “His Airness” in plain sight. The more natural everything seems to you, the easier it’ll be to make the most of your improved space.
