One of the many exciting items included in some May boxes: Alfred Lane solid cologne. This brand packs several of our favorite spring scents into handy, spill-free, travel-friendly tins. Given that many men have never tried solid cologne before, we tapped our Influencers Network—made up of savvy bloggers, YouTubers, and Instagrammers—to take it for a test drive. Here's what they had to say.
"[These solid colognes] aren't expensive at all, and they smell really good. I really like [this one]. It's made of just shea butter, beeswax, jojoba oil and fragrances. I can't put fragrances on my neck because it gives me a rash, but I can use this and it doesn't affect me in any negative way.
"I keep my Alfred Lane in my bag at all times. That way, when it wears off (as all scents do) I have the option to reapply if I need a little touch up. No pesky spilling, no bulky bottle, no pricey evaporation. This thing packs like a tin of balm or moisturizer. When you get that mid-day not-so-fresh feeling, you can discretely put this bad boy on and smell delicious again."
"It’s super easy to apply. Just a swipe of the finger and dab on the skin and the scent is easily discernible. What I love about the scent is that is similar to the fragrances I already use–subtle, manly and distinct. It now travels with me in my bag. It’s a great way to freshen up after a day of work or...the gym."
"The instant you...slide the lid off you can smell the cologne. You get a nice sharp fresh scent like clean soap.... Then...you pick up notes of lemon zest and flowers....It has a very crisp clean musky finish to it. Very well-balanced scent. Lots of layers, yet none of them muddy up one another."
"When I travel, I find a way to spill cologne on something. This is much easier to transport and unless left in a hot car for a week, won’t leak anywhere... Of course, the major question is does it smell good? Yeah, it smells great, actually."
"It's really a different experience. You're not spraying spray all over yourself, and it comes in a nice tin package....Really reasonably priced...has a nice, masculine musky scent to it. Not overpowering, allows you to control how much product you use. It's a great idea."
"They both smell great, even the manliest of men (me) would agree. I’ve been using Brio for about two weeks now, and [pictured here] is how much I’ve used, applying it about twice a day—a little goes a long way. And at $16 you’re getting your money’s worth."
