W3LL PEOPLE Shares 4 More Reasons To Buy Natural Makeup

Angelenos got a treat last week when the green beauty gurus from W3LL PEOPLE came to town to host an event at Fred Segal’s New Beauty in Santa Monica. The brand, which was started by a former NARS makeup artist, Shirley Pinkson (pictured above), dermatologist Renee Snyder, M.D., and branding expert turned treehugger, James Walker (also pictured), uses 100 percent natural ingredients in their cosmetics and aren’t afraid to go head-to-head with the luxury beauty brands. Lucky attendees spent the afternoon sipping organic green juice, shopping, getting makeovers and getting expert advice from the pros on how to get gorgeous—the green way.

We stopped by the event to get the inside scoop on the latest in eco cosmetics. What we learned might just inspire you to clean up your beauty act:

Natural Mascara Actually Works

After five years of hard work and research, W3LL PEOPLE just launched their first 100 percent natural Expressionist Bio Extreme Mascara. “Mascara was my one cheat [as in not green] product for years, but not anymore,” says Pinkson. “Our special formula uses cellulose fibers and no synthetics to lengthen and separate lashes, while giving you amazing volume and glossy color in just two coats.”

Clean Makeup Feels Better On Your Skin

“Conventional cosmetics use things like silicone and petroleum that lay on the skin and give that heavy, cake-y feeling most women hate about makeup,” says Pinkson. “Green ingredients are naturally lighter, so it feels more breathable on your face.”

Green Cosmetics Are More Versatile

“All my years working behind the makeup counter I was restricted by so many rules due to the chemicals in the ingredients,” says Pinkson. “I could sell someone a lipstick, but they couldn’t use it on their cheeks because the synthetics in the products would cause breakouts. You don’t have to worry about this with 100 percent natural cosmetics. They are truly flexible, so our foundation can be used to create a nude lip effect and our bronzer can be used as eye shadow.”

Free From Preservatives

“Natural beauty products are free from harsh preservatives, which is great for your skin but also means they have a shorter shelf life so you should use it or lose it within a year,” says Pinkson. “That said, you really shouldn’t keep any makeup—green or not—for more than a year, if you ask me.”
