This week, I swung by beachy Santa Monica to hit up the Fred Segal Salon Blow Dry Lounge by PHYTO. The star-studded stop's workshop director, Sean James, was in the house to give me the lowdown on today's top celeb-inspired hair requests, the dreamiest runway looks, and his fall miracle-workers.
What is the most requested celebrity hairstyle?
"It would have to be the ombre, influenced by Kim and Khloe Kardashian, of course. It's never-ending at the moment. Every other person walking out of the salon has the look!"
Which celebrity do you personally think has incredible hair?
"Best short hair is Jamie Lee Curtis. It's a perfect cut for her and age-appropriate. Best long hair goes to Kate Beckinsale and Sienna Miller. I love their beautiful, sexy, undone looks – they're classic beauties! I also love Brooke Burke’s long hair."
What were the most exciting hair looks on the spring 2014 runway?
"Dolce and Gabbana's pinned bouffant was classic and straight from a Fellini film. I loved it!"
Which hairstyle should make a comeback?
"I would love it if the Vidal Sassoon classic short cuts would make a comeback! They are my absolute favorite to cut—so precise. They’d bring sophistication to the streets. On the other extreme, the Farrah Fawcett would be fabulous to see bouncing around."
What are some of your favorite hair products for fall? **
"Phytokeratine Thermal Protectant Spray to prep a sleek blow dry, Phytovolume Actif Volumizing Spray for those updos and lots of volume, and Phytolaque Soie Hair Spray for light control and hold. I also love Phyto Professional Matte Texturizing Paste for texture or short styles. For cleansing, I love Phytojoba Intense Hydration Shampoo!"
