Advice from a Bearded Man: Luciano Pavarotti

After the huge success of his 1961 operatic debut at the Teatro Municipale in Reggio Emilia, Italy, Luciano Pavarotti gave up his plan to become a teacher and decided to pursue a career in opera. He performed across the country and by 1972 had brought his talent to the New York Met. He went on to give frequent television performances, eventually becoming one of the acclaimed Three Tenors. Well known for a host charity concerts including “Pavarotti and Friends,” he enjoyed international fame for his voice and his generosity until his death in 2007. Looking back on his prolific and fruitful career, we are ever grateful that he made the career choice that he did. His words of wisdom let us in on his driving motivation:

“The rivalry is with ourself. I try to be better than is possible. I fight against myself, not against the other.”

“Every day I remind myself of all that I have been given…with singing, you never know when you are going to lose the voice, and that makes you appreciate the time that you have when you are still singing well.”

Unleash your own inner tenor with the help of this classic Pavarotti album.
