Birchbox by Design | Limited Edition: Do Not Disturb

Have you ever wondered what goes into creating our beautiful Birchbox designs? Our latest video is a behind-the-scenes peek at the process; from mood board to printing, and photographing the box in our office. Every monthly and limited edition Birchbox is designed by our in house creative team and we like to think of them as a little piece of original art designed just for you.

What is your creative process like?

Once we have the theme locked and the assortment confirmed, we start to brainstorm and then mood board. For this box, we had a clear vision of what we wanted, so we went ahead with the initial mood board direction. The next step is design. I had a couple of days to experiment with the marbling process, and try out different methods, until I landed on a Japanese technique called Suminagashi (it means floating ink). Next, I scanned all of my marbled paper to start experimenting with layout and color. At this point, we worked very closely with our printer, Design Packaging Inc, to ensure color vibrancy and foil placement. Lastly, files were sent to DPI for final production!

What was the inspiration for this boxs design?

The assortment of this box is focused on products that are perfect for a pampered, night inbasically all the essentials to treat yourself, relax, and unwind. We wanted to create a design that evoked just that: tranquility. The paper marbling process is already so soothing with all the organic unexpected lines that form, we thought it would be a great look for this limited edition box.
