Birchbox Crush: Erica Domesek

From bauble-y statement necklaces to edgy bandage heels, there isn’t a fashion trend that eludes DIY goddess Erica Domesek. Her motto is, “I see it, I like it, I make it,” and she’s turned a crafting hobby into a wildly popular blog and brand-new book. We asked her for her style secrets.

Daily Regimen

I use Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 20 because it’s really lightweight, and always YSL Touche Éclat under my eyes. It’s my magic wand. I also always wear NARS Bronzing Powder in Laguna for a natural glow and a touch of lip gloss. Lately, I’ve been into Laura Mercier Lip Glacé in Bare Beige, a really pretty shade with a touch of pink.

Signature Scent

There’s a boutique near my house in Montauk called Share With — It’s like Audrey Hepburn woke up and opened a store there. Inside, they have a pop-up shop for Lost Marc’h, a French line you can’t find in the states. It’s my signature fragrance and I use it for everything: my perfume, my bath products, hand soap, lotion.

Coif Queen

I experiment a lot with my hair — I’ll see a cool style, like the crazy top knots on the runway, and try to recreate it. Lately I’ve been on a kick of braiding scarves into my hair. I use tons of coated bobby pins and Goody rubber bands to keep everything in place.

DIY Beauty

I’ll use nail polish and make my own color – It’s like DIY for dummies. In the summer I’ll do a funky French manicure with neon or I’ll use the Sally Hansen Nail Art Pens to do different designs: leopard or chevron.

Getting Crafty

I get really bummed when I drop a compact and the powder shatters but you can actually repurpose your makeup. Art is expensive; instead you can use some of your eyeshadows to create abstract artwork, maybe some sort of ombre. If you frame it, it could look pretty cool — P.S. I made this.

Latest Finds

Le Métier de Beauté has the most amazing eyeliner – It’s a felt-tipped liquid liner that’s like a $50 sharpie for your eyes. I also just picked up an Essie four-pack of minis. I love that it has four colors, and that it’s not too cumbersome. You can take it with you on a trip. I have on Sew Psyched right now.

Best Advice

I’m using craft products all the time and I get stuff all over me. Nail polish remover goes beyond beauty – you can get off sharpie markers, paint, everything. It’s something everyone has.
