Birchbox Short List

Forgive us for stating the obvious but: It’s Monday, and you’re not quite ready to start the work week. That’s why we’re bringing you the Birchbox Short List, a spirited guide to the best celeb gossip, videos, beauty news, and more. Think of it as your second cup of Joe—we promise we’ll leave you feeling ready to conquer the day (and week) ahead. Here, our picks for the week of November 18.

WWEB (Watch While Eating Breakfast)

Lily Allen tackles body image and gender stereotypes with a raised eyebrow in her statirical new music video for “Hard Out Here.” It begins on the operating room table (“How does someone let themselves get like this, eh?” states one record exec) and floats through the rump-shaking, dish-washing roles women can sometimes feel compelled to play. What’s your take on the song’s message?

Not Your Typical Pony

This week, Rooney Mara debuted a red carpet hair look that took us back to elementary school—and we don’t hate it. Mara’s multi-banded ponytail looked both sleek and playful, which is basically the vibe we aim for at all times.

Free Stuff Alert

When it comes to holiday shopping, we appreciate the value of treating yourself, too. Right now it's a cinch to do both: Spend $55 or more in the Birchbox Shop and you'll get the adorably colorful Kate Space Saturday Rectangle Makeup Case. Just use the offer code KSSGIFT at checkout!

Getting Punchy

Is the next best thing to drinking... reading about drinking? If so, Punch, a new online magazine full of narrative pieces about beer, wine, and spirits is our new “drink” of choice, if you will. Recently on the menu: A riff on Negronis (Mollie Chen’s favorite!) and a think piece on the role drinking plays (or doesn’t?) in Lena Dunham’s Girls. Bottom’s up!

Everlane Forever

Everlane founder Michael Preysman paid the Birchbox offices a special visit this week, much to our delight. After Preysman shared some of the secrets of his success (his motto: “always ask why”) and answered our many, many questions, we couldn’t help but load up on his company’s goods. We’re wild about their luxury tees and super-cozy scarves.

Do It Yourself: Rainbow Brite

Rookie Magazine has tutorial this week with steps to get the wild, rainbow-hued eyes seen on Chanel’s Spring 2014 runway. We can’t wait to try this color-packed DIY with the help of the POP Beauty POP Portfolio Eyeshadow Palette.

Excuse Us While We Fangirl

It’s no secret that we want Jennifer Lawrence to be our BFF. This week Vanity Fair kindly pulled together a bunch of J. Law’s best quotes from her Catching Fire press circuit, and it does not disappoint. The highlight? A dramatic tale of pizza miscommunication with costar Josh Hutcherson’s mom: “Remember when your mom didn’t order that pizza that one time, and I was so mad?” Sigh. A girl after our own pizza-loving hearts.

Lady Gaga on SNL

The pop world's resident oddball took her collection of eccentricities over to 30 Rock this weekend. We laughed, we cried, we… were impressed? This video of Gaga proves she may have an acting career if the whole music thing doesn't work out.
