The Faces of Journeymen

So, tell us about Journeymen. How did you get started?

Brandon: The catalyst for the brand came from a chance encounter with a former co-worker back in early 2015. We ran into each other at a local surf break in San Diego and Sean told me this story of him being accused of smelling like a cheap body spray brand. Not a compliment. Neither one of us could think of a natural deodorant that not only worked, but didnt smell like the cheap drugstore stuff. We got to work and formed Journeymen, and after several trials and tribulations, we launched in April 2016. The initial offering of our deodorant stick and spray made with our Cypress/Smoke scent from natural essential oils was well received by specialty retailers and media like GQ, Mens Journal, and Outside Magazine.

What does individuality mean to Journeymen?

Sean: Have your own point of view. Find the things that interest you, and dive into them. There is no right answer in life, so do what feels right and keep evolving.

Why did you decide to go natural?

Brandon: Theres such a stigma around natural deodorants, mostly that they dont actually work. Most people also dont understand that its good to sweat and release toxins from your armpits, which is contrary to what antiperspirants market. So we sought after natural ingredients and technologies that countered the bacteria and odor after you sweat while eliminating chemicals like aluminum and parabens. One of our favorite natural ingredients is aloe, which is found in our entire line. Aloe has been used for centuries as a multipurpose ingredient; its able to heal wounds with antibacterial properties, moisturize, and can be used as an anti-inflammatory to soothe skin.

Your image feels very California. Do you find a lot of inspiration there?

Sean: California has always been home and will be a never-ending inspiration for us. From the surf, sun, mountains, national parks, and diverse culture with cities like LA and San Francisco, it has an infinite amount of creative sources to draw from. But, thats not to say we dont love traveling and creating with other people from around the world.

What excites you about your production being entirely in the USA?

Brandon: The fact that we can work with local suppliers that have the same values as us (designing premium products better for humans and the earth) is something were really proud of. Every Journeymen product is manufactured in a solar powered facility with a community that cares about every single ingredient we use. Journeymens Face Wash, made with dirt-busting citrus extract, exfoliating willow bark, and ultra-hydrating aloe, is packaged in recycled PET bottles, and made in the USA, which shortens the supply chain and supports our local economy.
