Grammy Awards 2014: The Bolo Tie Has a Moment

Macklemore, one of the big winners at the 2014 Grammy Awards, brought out a bolo tie during his onstage performance of “Same Love.” We’ve seen him wear the shoestring neckwear before—in his “Thrift Shop” music video (at 1:09) and during his NPR Tiny Desk Concert (the bolo gets a shout out at 5:40). We love the guy—and especially love his undercut hairstyle—but how much love does the bolo deserve?

It’s definitely a tongue-in-cheek move considering the success of “Thrift Shop” and his hipster style choices, but Macklemore wasn’t the only Grammy winner sporting a bolo: Bruno Mars rocked one too while introducing a duet performance from Pink and Nate Ruess. And Mars, who isn’t shy about making fashion statements, wears it with a little less irony, but still makes it look kind of cool, and he apparently has a collection.

What are your thoughts? Can these guys get away with wearing it while the average Joe would look absurd? Or is the next big men’s fashion statement coming from the southwest with Philip Rivers as its poster boy?
