How to Master the Half-Up Topknot

other topknot Every few months, a new celebrity hair trend comes along that's too rad not to try. A while back, supermodel Karlie Kloss wowed us when she traded her long hair for a chic bob update. Now, we’re taking a page from Whitney Port’s stylebook for a cute new hybrid: the half-up topknot. Top bloggers like Shea Marie of Peace Love Shea and Kiara Schwartz of Tobruck Ave gave the trend a go at New York Fashion Week, and we’re raring to take the style for a spin this fall.

"A topknot is always a great way to change things up, Drybar founder Ali Webb explains. "I love the half-up version Whitney was working at this year's Simply Stylist seminar in LA. “It gives her face a nice lift, which softens the look and gives it a real, sexy feel." whitney port

To get the look, use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner like Bain de Terre's Jasmine line. Next, towel-dry and spritz ends with 12 Benefits Instant Healthy Hair Treatment for shine and protection. Section the front portion of hair from ear to ear, letting the back portion fall loose. Twist front into a relaxed, slightly messy top bun and secure with bobby pins (we love adding a flash of color with Jane Tran's Basic Bobby Pin Set. For a more polished topknot, try SARAHPOTEMPA's The HALF-UP.

To keep the style looking fresh on unwashed hair or a two-day-old blowout, Webb recommends applying a touch of dry shampoo like Serge Normant's Meta Revive onto roots. For a beachy vibe with body, spritz loose hair with Davines Sea Salt Spray.
