4 Ways to Get Heatless Curls and Waves

You Want: Loose, Beachy Waves | Try: The Headband Method

Not headed to the shore? A headband is all you need to recreate beachy waves like vlogger Vivian Vo-Farmers. Start with slightly damp hair and place a wide, stretchy one around your head. Divide your hair into two sections and, starting near your ears, weave one section over and back under the headband, continuing until you reach the nape of your neck. Repeat on the other side. The next morning, gently unwrap each section before removing your headband, then spritz a texturizer like PARLOR by Jeff Chastain's Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray and gently use your fingers to break up your surfer-girl waves.

You Want: Voluminous, Glamorous Waves | Try: Pin Curls

YouTuber Kayley Melissa has perfected the retro technique: Begin with damp hair and use your fingers to curl small sections of it upward into little circles, pinning them in place at the top of your head. Place the pin at the center of the curl to avoid dents the next morning. Once all your hair is pinned, use a bandana or wide cloth headband to protect your curls while you sleep. When you wake up, take your hair down, break up with your fingers, and finish with a light-hold hairspray like R+Co's Outer Space Flexible Hairspray to keep it all in place.

You Want: Victorias Secret Waves | Try: The Sock Wrap-Up

Vlogger Makebas sock method works especially well on coarse hair. Grab a medium-sized section of dry hair and wrap the ends around the middle of the sock to keep it in place. Once the hair is secure, roll the sock all the way up and away from your face and tie it in a knot at the top of your head to keep everything in place. Repeat until your whole head is full of socks (she uses four) and then hit the pillow. In the morning, untie the socks and use your fingers or a wide-toothed comb to break up your waves. Finish with a medium-hold mist like Oribes Superfine Hairspray.

You Want: Defined Natural Curls | Try: A Twist-Out

If youve already been blessed with natural curls, try a twist-out before you turn in for the night. Start with freshly co-washed, detangled, and partially air-dried hair like beauty blogger Bright N Boldly. Starting at the nape of your neck, grab two sections, coat each in a curl-friendly leave-in conditioner like Miss Jessies Original Leave-In Condish, and create a simple twist. Continue until all your hair is twisted. After waking, smooth an oil like Macadamia Professional Healing Oil Treatment over your twists to add shine and prevent frizz as you gently undo each one.
