Undereye Concealer Tips

The 3-Step Trick That Prevents Your Concealer From Creasing

When I think about how much I've spent on expensive concealers in hopes of finding "the one" that will banish my under eye creasing, my bank account cries a little. The issue? Concealer that leaves telltale lines under my eyes less than an hour after putting on my makeup. Little did I know the remedy was sitting on my bathroom sink shelf all along: face oil. By strategically applying it before and after my concealer, I've finally figured out how to prevent creasing for good.

Step 1: Tap face oil under your eyes.

Apply an undereye concealer

Apply a drop or two of face oil to your pointer and middle finger and lightly and quickly tap from your outer to inner undereye corner. I like using MyChelle Dermaceuticals' Advanced Argan Oil because it's organic, non-greasy, and contains omega fatty acid-rich baobab oil to nourish that sensitive skin. Bonus: Some of our subscribers will be sampling it in their boxes this month!

Step 2: Apply a moisturizing undereye concealer.

Tap face oil

I like to use a creamy concealer like Benefit Fake Up. It's shaped like a lipstick and has a moisturizing core that's surrounded by the concealer so it glides on smooth. I use my pointer and middle finger to lightly press the concealer under my eyes. Do not rub in with your fingers! Since the undereye skin is so delicate, it can pull and stretch easily, making fine lines more pronounced.

Step 3: Reapply face oil as needed.

reapply face oil

If you notice some creasing later in the day (it’s still possible, especially if you're braving the elements!), don't apply more concealer. Instead, reapply no more than one drop of oil underneath your eyes with the same light tapping motion in step one. The oil will act as a plumping agent to fill in any fine lines.

Do you "cook" your concealer? Find out more about this application trick here.
