What inspired you to start your blog, Sage Beauty?
Whenever I tell people that I’m a makeup artist they start asking me for product recommendations, skincare advice, and makeup application tips. I love educating my clients, friends, and family about beauty, so I decided to combine my passion for beauty with my passion for writing.
How has being a makeup artist informed your writing for the site site?
Because I work with women of all ages and ethnicities, I am able to make recommendations that work for everybody. When I hear the same concerns over and over, that inspires me to find a solution.
What’s your favorite look you’ve ever created for someone else?
My favorite looks to do are bridal makeup looks. I recently did a friend’s makeup for her wedding and it was gorgeous.
If you could only use one product every day, what product would it be?
I never leave the house without doing my brows, so I would have to say my Dipbrow in Ebony by Anastasia Beverly Hills, which is long-wearing and easy to apply. Well-groomed brows immediately lift and frame the face.
What’s your personal beauty philosophy?
I believe beauty starts with a consistent skin care routine and a healthy lifestyle. I always wear sunscreen, exfoliate regularly, use a treatment serum, and eat healthily.
Take us through your typical beauty routine.
I start my day by cleansing with my Clarisonic face brush and a medicated face wash. I usually use a separate SPF on top of my moisturizer. After skincare I always apply a foundation primer then my complexion product—my everyday palette is the Naked 3 palette from Urban Decay. I fill in my brows with Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow, then use Lancôme’s Hypnose Drama in Excessive Black.
I usually set my foundation with a powder and a setting spray so I don't have to touch up often during the day. I always have Creme de la Femme lipstick from MAC in my makeup bag.
What are some of your daily must-read blogs?
Our theme this month is all about taking on healthy challenges. What is something new you plan to tackle this summer?
This summer I have committed to practicing yoga on a daily basis. The physical and emotional benefits of yoga have helped me on numerous levels. I would love to become a yoga teacher!
What’s your favorite blog post you’ve ever written?
My favorite blog post was the one I wrote about attending a Birchbox Event at the Miss Jessie’s salon in Soho. I gained new product knowledge, met some amazing bloggers, and learned from one of the founders how to style and maintain curly hair. It was an amazing experience and my readers loved the post.
