3 New Frizz-Free Ways to Define Your Curls

No two curls are the same. And no one knows this better than Miss Jessie’s. The dynamo hair care brand that’s devoted to taming spirals recently developed three totally new styling products: Transitioner’s Magic, made for transitioning hair from relaxed to natural; Multicultural Curls, designed to tackle different textures; and Coily Custard, created to de-frizz kinky coils. Each product can really be used on every curl type, though. To prove it, we asked three staffers with different textured ringlets to put them to the test:

Heidi Knight

The staffer: Heidi Knight, Discovery Specialist

Her curl M.O.: Heidi’s main hair complaint is frizzy, uneven texture. “I have tiny S-shaped spirals that aren’t uniform,” she says. “And my ends are prone to dryness but my scalp can get oily.” She’s in the process of going natural.
The product: Transitioner’s Magic
How she styled it: Though Heidi was initially put off by the product’s consistency (“I was worried it would feel sticky”), she was pleasantly surprised by how soft it felt in her hair. She used it to style a twist-out, applying it to sections by wrapping her curls around her finger, putting a scarf around her head and sleeping on it, then unraveling and fluffing out.
The verdict: “It smoothed everything out so you couldn’t tell where my natural, more rough hair ends and my relaxed hair begins,” Heidi says. “My ends were springy, my roots were shiny, and it didn’t frizz out all day!”

Vanessa Buenger

The staffer: Vanessa Buenger, Social Media Associate

Her curl M.O.: “My hair is thin, but I have a lot of it,” Vanessa says. “And my curls can look thin and wiry, depending on the product.“
The product: Coily Custard
How she styled it: After washing and conditioning her hair, Vanessa dried it with a T-shirt (“it’s better than using a towel!”) and scrunched the custard into her curls, then let it air dry.
The verdict: Vanessa usually incorporates coconut oil into her styling routine, so she was psyched that Coily Custard contains both coconut and agave oil. “It made my hair feel so healthy,” she says. “And it amplified each individual curl so you could see the pattern of each coil.”

Jane Mahoney

The staffer: Jane Mahoney, Discovery Specialist

Her curl M.O.: “I like my curls to be big and defined, not too loose,” says Jane, who needs a frizz fighter that has major staying power. She also only washes her hair every two to three days, so keeping it hydrated is a top priority.
The product: Multicultural Curls
How she styled it: Jane ran the creamy product through her hair, diffused it, then spritzed on some hairspray on the first day. The second day, she wet her hair, reapplied and added a little finishing cream to keep her spirals in check.
The verdict: “My curls were defined and had much more volume, especially on the second day,” she says. “The product felt light in my hair, but it was still super hydrating.”
