Beauty Trend Were Falling For: Jade Rolling

Lorelei Orfeo, Senior Manager on Social + Content, recently got me started on jade rolling. It's the action of rolling smooth, cold jade stones (in the form of a nifty beauty tool) across your skin, like a facial massage. It comes from a 5,000-year-old Mayan and African Egyptian meditation tradition that not only is associated with balancing your chi (or "life force"), but it also increases circulation, improves skin elasticity, and de-puffs the eye area. The stone promotes lymphatic drainage, which basically means that it gets rid of all the toxins built up in your skin, leaving your complexion bright and glowing. Even if the spiritual element isn't quite your speed, the physical benefits of jade rolling are immediate (plus, it adds an easy, spa-like vibe to any routine). My favorite option? Book We Can't Put Down: Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

Amanda Tolleson, Chief Marketing Officer at Birchbox, introduced me to this book. The protagonist, Eleanor, struggles with the appropriate social interactions in her day-to-day life, and her story about loneliness and isolation is a beautiful mixture of sad, funny, and uplifting. As with any good book, there are unexpected twists to keep you on your toes, but I don't want to give too much away. Let's just say that the lesson of the story for Eleanorand for all of us, reallyis it's never too late for life to be more than just fine.
