From falling asleep in my makeup to bullying puny pores, I'll readily fess-up to misdemeanor beauty crimes. With that said, I’m loath to admit guilt when it comes to a more serious offense: applying dried-out tubes of expired mascara to my barely-there lashes.
If there were a beauty court of law, I’d channel my inner Elle Woods and sway the jury with several damning pieces of evidence. First up, most so-so mascaras dry out quickly and flake easily—so how exactly is a lash-challenged beauty editor supposed to know when an already bad formula has taken a turn for the worse? Also, most mascara comes in hard, opaque plastic tubes making it nearly impossible to tell how much formula remains inside. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, considering all these mitigating factors can you blame me for clinging to ancient mascara?
As retribution for this so-called infraction, I’m ditching my good-for-nothin’ drugstore standby and turning to British brand Eyeko’s aptly named Black Magic Mascara. The supermoisturizing formula magically transforms lashes from short and stubby to long and bountiful, while the water-resistant formula lasts (flake free!) for 12 hours. The pièce de résistance? The plush, toothpaste-like tube. Sleeker than the London Chunnel, it makes it easy to tell when a replacement is in order.
And while we’re on the subject of totally awesome things, some lucky Birchbox subscribers will be sampling Eyeko’s winning mascara in their November Birchboxes! After trying it myself, I can consider this case closed.
